NATCHEZ — Graveside services for George Leon McClain Sr., 91, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be 2:30 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Burial will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home’s Vidalia chapel.
Mr. McClain was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Mounds, La., the son of Leon Clyde McClain and Fanny George McClain.
He was retired from John Mansville after 43 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman — and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
McClain proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Louise McLemore, Edith Ball, Thelma Pirkle and Sara Edgin; and one brother, John Wesley McClain.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nett McClain; one daughter, Mary Georgette McClain; one son, George “Lee” McClain Jr. and wife, Debra, all of Vidalia; three grandchildren, Jonathan Thorpe and fiancée, Heather Snelson, Tyler McClain and wife, Caitlin, and Carlee Rose McClain; one sister, Mable Campbell of Baton Rouge; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Cliff Randall, Garlen Randall, Doug Galloway, Dan Campbell, Hunter Randall and Berlyn McLemore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Forest Byrd, Ike Hudnall, J.D. King Jr., Harris Barlow and Malcom Barlow.
