ALEXANDRIA, La. — A special teams miscue late in the game cost Ferriday High School an opportunity to beat Alexandria Senior High School for the second straight year as the host Trojans rallied to beat the visiting Trojans 15-4 Friday night.
Ferriday led Alexandria 14-8 in the fourth quarter until the unthinkable happened. A bad snap on a punt attempt led to a turnover and eventually allowed ASH to score the game-tying touchdown and ensuing go-ahead extra point.
“They got the ball at (our) 30-yard line and they took advantage of it,” head coach Stanley Smith said.
Ferriday took an 8-0 lead into halftime, but they played the rest of the game without quarterback Kobe Dillon, who got injured right before the half on a late hit out of bounds, Smith said.
“We also had a couple of other injuries. We fought through it. Just came up a little short. It was a hard-fought game,” Smith said.
Ferriday (0-1) plays at Franklin Parish Friday at 7 p.m.
