NATCHEZ — A man already facing charges associated with a string of hunting camp burglaries now faces additional unrelated animal cruelty charges.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office investigators said they uncovered more than $10,000 worth of stolen property at a trailer at 6 Jack Kelly Road on Aug. 8, where they arrested Clinton Kyle Blackwell, 26 of Natchez, for possession of three stolen firearms.

The stolen weapons were not all that was found on the property, said Lt. Cal Green, spokesperson for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

“When (Blackwell) was arrested for stolen property, there were two puppies found in a non-working Jacuzzi tub — left in their own filth,” Green said.

The puppies were taken to the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society where they were being housed Saturday, Green said.

ACSO Chief Deputy Jerry Brown said the puppies were in poor condition when deputies arrived on scene Aug. 8, but he could not identify the breed.

“The puppies were living in a tub,” Brown said. “One of them had a really bad case of mange, and they were covered in feces. … They were both malnourished.”

When Blackwell was arrested, Brown said more charges could be added after further investigation.

As of Saturday, Blackwell is also charged with the receiving of stolen property and simple cruelty to animals.

Blackwell has a bond of $50,000 for possession of stolen firearms and no bond set for the other charges.

Brown said roughly $30,000 to $40,000 worth of stolen hunting equipment, utilities and other items have been recovered from a series of hunting camp burglaries believed to have started in April.

Brown said three suspects have been arrested so far in relation to the burglaries, including Blackwell, and one suspect — Daniel Grantham, is still at large.

Other arrests include Michael Dewayne Blackwell, 52, and Joshua Earl Grantham, 31, who are being held at Adams County Jail with bonds of $2,500 and $5,000 respectively.
