SUMMIT, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man accused of armed robbery tried to play it cool, but the heat found him anyway.
Patrick James Burns, 42, was arrested hiding next to an ice machine Saturday while trying to rob the Piggly Wiggly in Summit at gunpoint.
Summit Police Officer William Harris was on patrol when he noticed something didn’t look right at the supermarket, minutes away from closing for the night.
Investigator James Kenny says that when Harris approached, store employees initially wouldn’t unlock the door.
Eventually, they let Harris in and he found Burns hiding next to the ice machine.
Kenny commends Harris for “excellent police work.”
Burns is jailed on $50,000 bail. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer to speak for him.
