The Vidalia Little League Softball 16U all-stars kept their chances at repeating as Southwest Regional champions alive Monday afternoon after defeating Texas East, 15-2.
Coach Tate Lipscomb said after an average start, his team picked up the pace like a flip of a switch.
“We woke up and finally hit the ball,” he said. “It’s like we settled down and did everything well. We hit and played defense.”
Shelby Mason pitched a complete game, recording four strikeouts in five innings to earn the win. She also ended 2-for-3 at the plate.
Carly Delaney hit an inside-the-park home run, while Alyssa Howard was 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple. Jensen Gremillion also hit a triple in the win.
Lipscomb said with Monday’s win being just the second game his team has played together as an all-star unit, he was pleased with the effort his players gave.
“I saw a lot of improvement,” he said. “Hopefully we continue to come out with the same confidence.”
Vidalia will play the winner of Louisiana and Mississippi at 4 p.m. today. If it is to win, the team will play again at 8 p.m. for a spot in the title game.
