NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a county man Saturday after they say he admitted to choking his wife during an argument in the front yard of their house.
Anthony Kentrell Johnson, 34, of 87 Gaylor Road, faces a charge of aggravated domestic violence, which is a felony. As of Sunday evening, Johnson was being held in Adams County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
“Under the new domestic laws, if you choke somebody, that is an automatic felony,” said Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten.
Patten said deputies received a call from dispatch about a man choking his wife and deputies tried to return the call to the woman who had placed the call.
“When she didn’t answer the phone when deputies called back, that’s a red flag,” Patten said. “If you call 911 and hang up, we are going to show up at your house anyway.”
When deputies arrived, the wife told deputies she and her husband were arguing in the front yard that he grabbed her around the neck and choked her.
Deputies reportedly asked Johnson if he choked her and he said yes.
