NASHVILLE — Natchez Trace Parkway rangers will now adding unmarked vehicles to their fleet following a dramatic increase in the number of traffic violations.

Fox 17 News in Nashville reports the National Park Service said unmarked cars of varying colors will be used by rangers after a six-month pilot program showed a significant increase in distracted driving and aggressive driving violations.

The park service has ordered unmarked units because of the results of the pilot program.

District Ranger John Hearne told the Nashville news station said drivers on the Natchez Trace should not be concerned about people pretending to be police.

“These vehicles will have multiple flashing red and blue lights, headlights and grill light; it will look like a Christmas tree when they light up,” Hearne said.

The units will be used in Tenessee, Alabama and Mississippi.
