LAKE ST. JOHN — Locals can walk the red carpet Saturday in the shoes of their favorite celebrity to benefit the Natchez Adams County Humane Society at the Celebrity Party Fundraiser.

Susan Callon, an NACHS board member, said pretending can be fun, but dressing up is not a requirement.

Fame and fortune lasts from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the house of Pat and Connie Burns — 5055 Louisiana 568, Ferriday.

Attendees pay a $35 donation and may come dressed as their favorite famous person, though donning a costume is optional.

NACHS has made it easier for furry friend seekers to adopt their favorite pets at low prices — and vaccines, chips and surgeries do not come cheap. That is without mentioning the food and cleaning supplies necessary to maintain a safe and pet-friendly shelter.

Callon said the summer fundraiser on the lake has offered a load of fun in previous years.

“The lake parties are very popular. … The party is going to be at the home of Pat Burns who is a very precious board member. … It’s very beneficial to the Humane Society.”

Laura Newkirk, a volunteer for the fundraiser, said the Burns home is already being decorated for the occasion — complete with red carpet and paparazzi.

The party features food and beverage donated by NACHS volunteers, a movie-themed popcorn and candy bar, silent and live auctions and a cash bar.

Newkirk said several local businesses and restaurants have donated to the occasion.

“I have five ‘swag’ boxes (gift boxes) for best actor, best actress, best director, best picture, and best costume hair and makeup,” Newkirk said.

“I’ve also ordered gold Oscars that will be auctioned off.”

She said many actor and actress — volunteers — are getting into character.

“The bar is tended by board members and volunteers dressed as celebrity couples who will be having a contest,” Newkirk said. “They are going to rotate in 30-minute increments to see who can raise the most money and tips.”

She said an “All Access Pass” will be auctioned off early in the event that will allow the wearer to have free drinks all night.

Newkirk said attendees could park in the yard. Donations will be accepted at the door and all proceeds benefit NACHS.
