TIOGA, La. — The Concordia Dixie Youth 6U all-star team dropped its first game of the state tournament Thursday with a 23-13 loss to the Vernon Nationals.
Coach Bo Brashier said his team simply didn’t play well.
“We came out sluggish,” he said. “We didn’t get going until about the third inning, and by then it was too late.”
Brashier also said his team faltered on defense.
“We just threw the ball around too much,” he said.
The bright spots for Concordia, Brashier said, were performances from Bentley Thompson on defense at third base and Aaron Paul Lemoine at the plate.
Concordia is still in the pool play round and will play again today at 9 a.m. against Tioga and at 1 p.m. against Bossier City.
The top two teams from the pool play round will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament on Saturday.
