NATCHEZ — Police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old Natchez man, whose body was found early Monday lying in the doorway of a Natchez restaurant.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said he was called to the Taste of Chicago restaurant, 300 MLK Jr. Drive, Natchez, at approximately 3 a.m. Monday where he found the body of Fabian Diaz lying in the doorway of the restaurant. Lee said he saw no apparent wounds that would have caused Diaz’s death.
Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said a patrol car had just canvassed the area 15 minutes before the call.
“There was no sign of anyone there,” Armstrong said. “They went back 15 minutes later after the 911 call and found the body there.”
Armstrong said police also reported no obvious signs of trauma. He said foul play is not suspected at this time.
“An autopsy is being performed right now to determine the cause of death,” Lee said Monday evening.
Armstrong said a toxicology report is being conducted as well.
Diaz lived in the 100 block of Old Meadow Lane, Natchez, Lee said, but he was born and raised in Chicago.
Armstrong said Natchez police were familiar with Diaz.
“He was in the system,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong said police are investigating the death and have talked to some people about Diaz already but police would like to talk to anyone who may be familiar with him, particularly anyone with information about Diaz’s whereabouts earlier in the night.
“Anyone with information should contact the Natchez Police Department,” Lee said.
