NATCHEZ — Services for Vernon L. Johnson Jr., 71, of Natchez, who died on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, in Washington, will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist church with the Rev. LeRoy White officiating.  

Burial will follow at the Leesdale Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life wake service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the church.

Mr. Johnson was born on Nov. 28, 1946, the son of Vernon L. Johnson Sr. and Ruby Lee Johnson.

He was a 1964 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and attended Natchez Junior College.

Vernon was a retired U.S. Army veteran and an electrician.  He was also a member of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church.  He enjoyed hunting, collecting pictures, cooking and western movies.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include, two sons, Sedrick Page and Avery Johnson; one daughter, Vernecia Johnson Anthony and husband, Theodore; one brother, Arthur Johnson Sr.; one sister, Ruth Johnson Walker and husband, Kenneth Ray; special friend, Barbara Crenshaw; and other relatives and friends.
