NATCHEZ — Coach Adam Brady has no problem letting people know how much he cares about the players on his Natchez-Adams Girls softball 12U All-Star team.

His screams and shouts, while powerful, have yet the softest tone.

Thursday night while Natchez took on Lawrence County in a district doubleheader, Brady never once stopped encouraging his team.

“We don’t have enough positivity in this world anyway,” Brady said. “These girls have got the potential to be great, they just have to believe in themselves. The only way to do that is for them to hear it.”

Along the way to back-to-back wins, Brady was clapping and urging Natchez to be prepared for anything that comes its way.

Brady said he believes so much in the reinforcements, they have turned personal. He said its like teaching one of his one, which he has on the team in shortstop Charity Brady.

“There’s only one girl that I haven’t known since knee-high. If I hadn’t coached them already, I still know them,” Brady said. “They are family. That’s just what this is — one big family.”

With his daughter right there beside him, the familial vibe doesn’t stop there for Brady. His wife, Jessica, is also a coach for the team.

Additionally, assistant coach Paul McLaurin has a daughter, Whitney Ballard, on the team, too.

Possibly the most notable group close-knit members on the team, however, are triplets Hope, Faith and Joy Gutter.

Faith said along with all the others on the team, she never gets tired of playing with her sisters.

“They are very supportive,” she said.

Faith said she doesn’t mind having Brady as a coach, either, especially with strong desire to help.

“He always he makes sure we know what we are doing,” she said. “He’s one of the best.”

Though Natchez would garner a No. 1 seed for its district with the victories, Brady said his team could not commit enough players to participate in the state tournament in early July.

Still, Brady said any time spent together is worth it.

“We have our moments, but everyone meshes so well,” he said.
