NATCHEZ — Three Natchez people face grand jury indictments for dog fighting in connection to an incident last year.
Charoyd Henrence Bell, 37, was charged Friday on an indictment for habitual dogfighting, while 30-year-old Georgia Ivrione Chatman and 23-year-old Damion Green also turned themselves in over the course of Thursday and Friday on dogfighting indictments.
Bell was already being held in the Adams County Jail on his initial charges and remained there on a $25,000 bond as of Friday afternoon.
Green and Chatman were released on $10,000 and $5,000 bonds, respectively.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Bell in May 2017 in connection to a dogfighting ring at Bell’s residence at 507 Lasalle St., where deputies rescued 14 dogs. Chatman was also arrested as a coconspirator, as she also lived at the residence, ACSO spokesperson Lt. Cal Green said. Damion Green was on the premises when deputies arrived, Cal Green said.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they heard “distressful yelps and howls” from the bayou near the residence and found numerous pit bulls in poor condition, Cal Green said.
Bell has an extensive criminal history in Natchez. In May 2016, he was arrested after images surfaced online of Bell holding multiple puppies in a cruel manner, lifting them up by the scruff of their skin of their back, upside down by the tail and by their ears.
Most recently, Natchez police arrested Bell in August 2017 — just three months after his dogfighting arrest — for allegedly stealing more than 10 dogs.
