ST. MARTINVILLE, La. — A Catholic memorial mass for Mary Kay Voorhies Habetz, 64, who died peacefully surrounded by her family, Sunday, June 10, 2018, in New Orleans, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church.
Burial will follow the memorial mass. Urn bearer will be Taylor Habetz.
Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville, La.
Kay was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister.
She was born Sept. 25, 1953, in Martinville, the daughter of Thomas and Rita Thomas Voorhies.
She was a 38-year resident of Loreauville after marrying Tedmund Habetz on Leap Day in 1980.
She was a 1972 graduate of Our Lady of Mercy. Prior to serving as human resources director at Berard, Habetz and Associates Inc., for 23 years, Kay was employed by the U.S. Social Security Administration for 12 years. She also served the local community as a Notary Public for 35 years. She was an active member of the Louisiana hot air ballooning community and enjoyed travelling with her friends and family to ballooning competitions.
Kay loved cutting the grass, as it brought her “me time relaxation.” Her children and grandchildren brought her the most joy, selflessly giving to each of them.
She was preceded in death by her father; mother-in-law, Rita Ohlenforst Habetz; and father-in-law, Joseph Habetz.
She was also preceded in death by her four-legged companion, Molly.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; three children, Taylor Habetz, Morgan Habetz and Bradford Habetz Millett and husband, Ryan; four grandchildren, Raegan and Karleigh Habetz, Elijah Simon and Rucker Millett; six siblings, Jeffery Voorhies and wife, Annette, Christine Johnson and husband, Bill, Ted Voorhies and wife, Nikki, Patrice Jarreau and husband, Todd, Stephen Voorhies and Michelle Belaire and husband, Chris; sister-in-law, Flavia Eldridge and husband, Glenn; two brothers-in-law, Michael Habetz and wife, Cindy, and Bruno Habetz and wife, Linda; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
