NATCHEZ — The Jefferson Street United Methodist Church joined churches across the state in a state-wide bell toll at noon to honor the life of Medgar Evers, the state’s first NAACP field secretary who was assassinated in the driveway of his house in Jackson 55 year ago. Vacation Bible school students helped ring the bell in the church’s courtyard.
