NATCHEZ — Graveside memorial services for Philip Mosby Jr., 71, who died Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 at 6:17 p.m., at Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis, Ind., after a courageous 22-year battle with cancer, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, at the Natchez National Cemetery, 41 Cemetery Road.

Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel of South Bend, Ind., assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Mosby was born Sept. 11, 1946, in Natchez, the son of Philip and Mary Mosby.

He was a 1965 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On Feb. 28, 1970, in Natchez, Philip was united in marriage with Barbara Ann Covington Mosby, who survives. From this union, three beautiful children were born. He was also the owner and primary operator of Mosby’s Painting in South Bend, Ind. Philip was a true gentleman’s gentleman. He was patient, kind and never met a stranger. He probably never made an enemy in his life. Philip was a very pure spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Henry Covington; three sisters, Katherine Owsley, Mary Herrington and Elaine Foster; and brother-in-law, Al Owsley.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years; three children, Comeco Mourning and husband, Cecil, LaTonia Ferguson and husband, Tim, and Rodney Mosby and wife, Shaina; five grandchildren, Bre’Aira Lipsey, Zsae’Breion Lipsey, D’Jorin Mourning, Timothy Ferguson Jr. and Philip’s namesake, Philip Curtus Mosby Jr. Ferguson; mother-in-law, Dorothy Covington of Natchez; two siblings, Leona Mosby of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Maurice Mosby of Perrysburgh, Ohio; siblings-in-law, Terry Covington Poindexter and husband, David, Doris Townsend and husband, Perry, Donnie Covington and Henry Covington Jr.; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends who became family.
