NATCHEZ — The Mississippi River’s floodwaters are expected to rise beyond historic levels at Natchez sometime Wednesday.

The river level is expected to be at 58.3 feet Wednesday morning, and is projected to rise to 59.2 feet over the next 24 hours.

The high water record for the river at Natchez is 58.04 feet, set Feb. 21, 1937.

Current National weather Service projections say the river will continue to rise until it crests at 64 feet May 21.

Flood stage at Natchez is 48 feet.
