NATCHEZ — Services for Rosa Watson Lewis, 91, of Natchez, who died Thursday, May 24, 2018, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Ford Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m.
Visitation will continue Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Lewis was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Natchez, the daughter of Ike Watson and Josephine Pope Watson.
She was a graduate of Brumfield High School and received her master’s degree from Alcorn A&M College.
Mrs. Lewis was a retired educator at Gloster Elementary School in Amite County. She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess, member of the program committee and missionary society.
She was also a member of the NAACP and Retired Teachers Association.
She loved gardening, sewing and most of all, her family and church.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lewis Sr.; two daughters, Hattie B. Ellis and Darleen Lewis Johnson; one grandson, Renard Ellis; and 15 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Herbert Lewis Jr. and wife, Marzettia, Robert Lewis Sr. and wife, Dinah, and Paul Lewis Sr. and wife, Bernice; one daughter, Joyce Marie Lewis; one sister, Mable King; 12 grandchildren, Tremaine, Darrick Sr., Robert Jr., Herbert III, Brian, Henson, Bruce, Paula, Jeremy, Paul II, Collier and Ryan; 16 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
