What you need to know about garbage collection in Natchez

NATCHEZ — Tuesday marks the beginning of garbage hauler Waste Pro’s final week of collection, and residents will have a few important steps to take care of in the process.
Depending on pickup schedule, Waste Pro will collect residents’ garbage carts on either Tuesday or Thursday, Waste Pro representatives said earlier this week. Residents on a Tuesday/Friday garbage collection schedule will have their bins collected on Tuesday, as Waste Pro will no longer be the service provider by Friday of next week.
On the other hand, residents whose garbage goes on Mondays and Thursdays will have their carts picked up on Thursday, the last day of the month and final day of Waste Pro’s contract with Natchez.
“Put out those Waste Pro containers whether they are full or empty,” Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell said.
Residents must also place all recycling carts out for collection on Wednesday.
The company will make note of what addresses are missing carts, Waste Pro division manager Marvin Kelch said.
“The carts need to be out there. If not, we’ll record addresses and stuff that is missing, and we’ll handle that with the city,” Kelch said.
After next week, residents must then begin using their carts from new hauler, Arrow Disposal Services Inc. (ADSI).
Garbage and recycling pickup schedules will remain the same for all residents.
The important aspects of these 65-gallon carts, Grennell said, is that they are color-coated — green is for garbage, while blue is for recycling.
Within the blue carts, Grennell said, plastics Nos. 1 and 2, paper, cardboard, aluminum and metal items such as cans are allowed. Other items, such as glass, should not be included in the recycling bins.
“It’s very important that citizens take part in recycling,” Grennell said.
Anyone with questions about what materials are recyclable can contact the city planner’s office at 601-445-7518, City Planner Riccardo Giani said.
Additional carts are available upon request for an additional fee of $9 a month.
After June 1, residents’ trash bills will be adjusted to the new final rate of $19.90 per unit, which includes a $13.45 garbage garbage collection fee, $4 for recycling, $1 for mosquito control and $1.45 for disposal at the landfill in Fayette.
Residents with any questions or needs concerning their new services can also contact ADSI toll-free at 866-440-3983.
