Charges against the suspect in a May 9 assault of a woman at a car wash in Ferriday have been upgraded from second-degree battery to second-degree murder after the victim died Thursday of injuries, said Richard Madison, Ferriday police investigator.
The charge against Donteale K. Carter, 20, of 417 5th St., Ferriday, were upgraded during a Friday morning magistrate hearing in Concordia Parish before Division B, 7th Judicial District Court Judge John Reeves, Madison said.
Reeves set Carter’s bond at $750,000.
The murder victim is Teresa Poole, 42, of 2246 EE Wallace Blvd., Ferriday, Madison said, and an autopsy revealed she died as a result of injuries, including blunt force trauma, she sustained in the assault at the car wash at U.S. 84 and Sixth Street in Ferriday.
The incident was captured on surveillance video.
Madison said an arraignment hearing for Carter should be held within 60 days at which time Carter is expected to enter a plea.
