Centreville Academy baseball falls in South State

BROOKHAVEN — The Centreville Academy Tigers had their postseason run come to a close Thursday night after forcing Game 3 of their MAIS Class AA South State Championship Series with the Brookhaven Academy Cougars.
Centreville dropped Game 3 in seven innings, 11-3. The Tigers never had the lead but came close as they trailed by just one run in the fourth inning, 4-3.
Tyler Thomassie pitched 3.1 innings to take the loss while recording five strikeouts.
The Tigers won Game 2, 9-2.
Coming off a 19-0 four-inning loss at home, Centreville Academy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Tigers plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning and two more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead and give starting and winning pitcher Jace DeLee more than enough run support.
DeLee went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs, none earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out 11 Brookhaven Academy batters. He pitched five straight scoreless innings before giving up two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Wyatt Brabham had a big game at the plate for Centreville, going 3-for-5 with a triple, four runs batted in and one run scored. Dustin Roberts had a home run for the Tigers.
Centreville ended with a record of 22-10.
