NATCHEZ — Natchez’s newest garbage hauler could be setting up shop at the city’s former Titan Tire facility, a location currently the subject of a lawsuit involving the city.

Per the city’s contract with, Arrow Disposal Services Inc., that agreed this week to terms of service as Natchez’s new waste and recycling collector starting June 1, the company will lease space at the former Titan Tire property for the length of the contract. The agreement spells out a three-year term, with an additional three years afterward if neither side notifies the other of a desire to terminate the contract.

Though cost of the lease has not been finalized, City Attorney Bob Latham said Arrow proposed a $12,000 annual rental, and he said the board of aldermen seemed comfortable with that figure during negotiations.

In addition to that income, Latham said the city would also benefit by no longer having to employ security measures as it has been since last year.

“We wouldn’t have to be spending money on security anymore,” Latham said.

Because of the city’s ongoing lawsuit against Titan Tire, however, the outcome of where the new hauler lands remains to be seen.

In the lawsuit, the city seeks either a settlement or that Titan assumes ownership of the facility so that it is no longer Natchez’s liability. If the latter happens, Arrow would have to relocate elsewhere, Latham said.

Though the manufacturing facility could potentially have asbestos, Latham said, the conditions of that part of the property would not affect Arrow.

The city expects the hauler to have all of its trucks in place and ready to go by the end of this month.
