Concordia Parish School Board members will discuss the future of Concordia Academy of Math, Science and Technology at today’s 6 p.m. meeting.

“The physical plant does not have 11th or 12th grade classrooms,” said Whest Shirley, Concordia Parish Schools superintendent.

The discussion, Shirley said, will include possibly purchasing modular classrooms to accommodate the 11th- and 12th-grade classrooms.

Shirley said he has prices for modular classrooms to include in the discussion, and that he is aware of rumors floating around that the school board is considering closing the high school portion of the academy.

“I’ve seen people sharing that on Facebook. We are at capacity with the design of the school,” Shirley said, adding that the school was originally built to accommodate some elementary grades and that the board has been adding classes each year.

Shirley said he does not believe any action would be taken at tonight’s meeting to close any portion of the school.

“This is on the agenda to inform the board of the situation,” Shirley said. “We are talking about the future. Anything is on the table.”
