Upon arrival, deputies said they found a bleeding Austin L. Davis, 27, 2242 E.E. Wallace Blvd., Ferriday, and Eric T. Mitchell, 37, 370 Louisiana 900, Clayton, who witnesses said were fighting in the road.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said witnesses told deputies that Davis had come into Mitchell’s home uninvited and started a fight with the man.

Witnesses said Mitchell pulled a knife and eventually cut Davis across his thumb. Davis then ran away, but deputies said Mitchell chased the man down the road and began another fight with him in the street.

Hedrick said the fight was over fewer than $20.

Deputies called an ambulance for Davis for the knife wound and arrested both men.

“It’s very tragic that these incidents occur,” Hedrick said. “I’m very glad everyone is OK and proud our deputies were able to prevent any (further) injuries.”

Deputies arrested Davis on charges of home invasion and disturbing the peace. He was released on a bond of $15,350.

Mitchell faced a charge of disturbing the peace and was released on a bond of $350.

Hedrick said in most cases of a person defending themselves against a home invader, deputies would not arrest the homeowner. Because allegedly Mitchell chased Davis down the road to continue the fight, however, he was also charged.
