FERRIDAY — Services for David Ellis, 89, of Ferriday, who died Monday, April 30, 2018, at Heritage Manor Health and Rehab in Ferriday, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Beulah Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Ellis was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Vidalia, the son of Joseph Perry Latham and Savannah Ellis.
He was a retired plumber for the Town of Ferriday for 48 years. Even after his retirement, he was often called upon to help locate water lines and cut-off valves.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Graham Ellis; one daughter, Joyce Rose Brown; his parents; and five siblings, Laura, Lena, Mary Charles and George.
Survivors include three sons, David Ellis Jr. and wife, Laverne, William Ellis and wife, Karen, all of Flint, Mich., and Kenneth Ellis of Petal; four daughters, Betty Washington and husband, Curtis, of Thibodaux, La., Marion Banks of Arlington, Texas, Shirley Taylor and husband, Leroy, of New Orleans, and Glenda Taylor and husband, David, of Natchez; one granddaughter he reared as his own, Shanitha Smith of Georgia; one brother, William “Jack” Ellis and wife, Octavia, of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Marie Martin of Madison; and a number of grandchildren, nieces (including a special niece and caregiver, Katie Warner of Ferriday) and a number of friends, including Herbert Brown of Ferriday.
