NATCHEZ — The Miss-Lou raised approximately $136,000 to fight cancer following the annual Miss-Lou Relay for Life on Friday in Vidalia.

Teams raised a combined $136,344, with Friday’s relay accounting for approximately $21,000 of that total, Relay accounting chair Janis Holder said.

The Markets raised the most money of any team, bringing in $25,523 in funds. The Vidalia Walmart finished second with $15,000 raised, while Concordia Bank & Trust finished third with $9,465.

Holder thanked all of the team captains and members, sponsors and donors for making the event a success.

“The generosity of our Miss-Lou family never disappoints,” she said.

The total falls approximately $15,000 short of last year’s, though Holder noted that $30,000 of the funds raised in 2017 came after the Relay for Life event.

The biggest individual fundraisers this year were Lillian Edney and Demetria Reed, both of God’s Angelic Warriors.

First-place tent site belonged to the Concordia Longbeards, while the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office placed second in that category.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office took home a brand new award for overall best team.

The Miss-Lou Relay for Life event has raised more than $3.5 million since 1996 for the American Cancer Society and the battle against cancer.
