NATCHEZ — The death of a baby authorities say was brought to Natchez is being investigated by Jefferson County law enforcement.
Though the case arose in Jefferson County, the baby was taken to Merit Health Natchez on Wednesday, Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.
There, the baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Adams County Coroner James Lee said.
“This case will trouble me the rest of my natural life,” Lee said.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is looking into the possibility of foul play, Mississippi News Now reported.
Lee called the situation a potential homicide.
Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker did not return requests for comment made Thursday to the sheriff’s office.
