NATCHEZ — The Adams County Circuit Clerk’s office failed to meet a federal deadline last week to send active military and overseas voters absentee ballots, Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said Friday.

All other 81 counties in Mississippi — excluding Adams — met the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act deadline on April 21 to send absentee ballots to people overseas who had requested one.

Circuit clerks are required to send these requested ballots 45 days prior to the primary election.

Four men and women from Adams County requested the absentee ballots, which were sent two days late on April 23.

Since the packets were late, the four voters will receive two extra days to mail their ballots; their new deadline is June 7.

Monday, May 7, is the deadline for voter registration for the June 5 election.

Adams County Circuit Clerk Eddie Walker could not be immediately reached for comment late Friday afternoon.
