The Pilgrimage Garden Club Flower Show will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Stanton Hall, 401 High St., Natchez.

The antebellum mansion, built in the 1850s, is one of Natchez’s most popular attractions.

This is an excellent chance to enjoy an elegant home and see beautiful flower designs prepared by some of your friends and neighbors.

The flower show is open to the public.  Refreshments will be served on the back gallery.

The Pilgrimage Garden Club is excited to present Natchez with its annual flower show, titled “Music of Mississippi” celebrating Mississippi as the “Birthplace of American Music.”

Mississippi is considered the birthplace of the blues, as well as country music, and rock ’n’ roll. This year’s flower designs will be inspired by successful Mississippi musicians in those popular music genres.

This year, the event will be divided into three divisions.

Division I is Horticulture Specimens contributed by members and invited guests and will be located for viewing in the Queen’s Room of the Carriage House.

Division II is Design and will be divided into two sections and will be located in the main house for viewing. Section A: “Mississippi Rhythm and Blues,” and Section B: “Mississippi Country and Rock.” Each section is divided into three classes, each with its own theme. Section A will consist of Class 1 — “Robert Johnson;” Class 2 — “B.B. King;” and Class 3 — “Sam Cooke.”  Section B will consist of Class 4 — “Glen Ballard,” Class 5 — “Elvis Presley” and Class 6 —“Faith Hill.” Again this year we are including Teen Gardeners, ages 13-19, and their designs will be displayed in Class 6.

Division III will be divided into Section A, the Youth Exhibits; Section B, Educational Exhibits. This division also will be available for viewing in the main house. Youth exhibits are both in horticulture and design, and are divided into Beginning Gardeners, Preschool through age 6; Intermediate Gardeners, ages 7 through 9; and Junior Gardeners, ages 10 through 12. Beginning, Intermediate and Youth Gardeners will arrange their designs outside the Queen’s Room at the Carriage House at Stanton Hall, on Friday, April 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. Judging will be on Saturday morning.

Lee Carby and I are the overall chairmen for the show. Don’t miss this opportunity to view unique and creative floral designs along with a chance to learn about the plants and flowers native to the Natchez area, all on the grounds of a magnificent antebellum home.

Katie Tillman is a member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club and Chairman of the flower show.
