ROXIE — A Roxie woman was arrested Tuesday for animal cruelty after deputies reportedly found an emaciated dog in her possession.
Margarie J. Middleton, 46, faces a charge of simple animal cruelty after deputies discovered the dog near death, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said.
A Facebook post made Thursday at 4:44 p.m. by a concerned citizen who posted pictures of the dog prompted the investigation by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
When questioned by deputies, Middleton admitted to being the dog’s owner, Patten said.
Additionally, Patten said the woman confessed to owning another dog that died one day prior.
Pictures of the dog taken by the sheriff’s office show the dog to be severely malnourished.
An examination at the Natchez Veterinary Clinic also showed the dog had hookworms, heartworms and heavily reduced muscle mass around the eyes, Patten said. The dog, he said, is now in the care of the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society.
Middleton was released on a $1,000 recognizance bond, Patten said.
