NATCHEZ — The victim of an alleged gunshot wound Monday night is in stable condition and expected to live, officials say.

Natchez Police Department Chief Walter Armstrong said no charges have yet been filed in the incident, and that the shooting is still under ainvestigation.

An unidentified man was shot late Monday night near the intersection of Government Fleet Road and Irving Lane.

Officers responded to a report that a woman had accidentally shot her boyfriend.

Armstrong said officers have interviewed both the woman involved in the incident and other witnesses on the scene.

Officers have confiscated a sedan in which the victim was found, and Armstrong said his investigators are in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle.

“We hope to find the weapon, as well as collect any other evidence inside the car,” Armstrong said. “This is still in the early stages of investigation.”
