NATCHEZ — An Adams County couple was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting their 10-year-old child.
Adams County Chief Deputy Jerry Brown said the sheriff’s office received a call Saturday afternoon concerning a child’s welfare on Cloverdale Road.
The witness told sheriff’s deputies they had seen a man attempting to force a child into a red truck — a Dodge or a Chevrolet, Brown said.
Brown said the child ran from the truck and got in the car with the witness, who noticed several scratch marks on the 10-year-old and subsequently called the sheriff’s office.
After arriving on the scene, Brown said statements from the witnesses and the child implicated April Till, 45, and John Edward Heidel, 41, both of 155 Cloverdale Road, as having inflicted the wounds.
Brown said Till had been inside the red truck while Heidel was attempting to force their child inside.
Deputies arrested Heidel and Till Saturday on a charge of aggravated assault domestic violence.
Brown said the Department of Human Services is involved in the investigation and is currently in the process of deciding who will have custody of the child.
Heidel and Till were released after posting a $10,000 bond.
