NATCHEZ — The former Rite-Aid, now a Walgreens, at 285 Seargent S. Prentiss Drive, Natchez, will close May 1, Walgreens recently announced.
“The pharmacy’s last day of business will be May 1,” the company stated in a press release. “Patients will not need to take any action and will receive a letter in the mail with more details about their prescription records.”
A sign in the former Natchez Rite-Aid says the store’s pharmacy records will be transferred to the Walgreens store at 303 D’Evereux Drive.
“You may also get your prescriptions filled at any other Walgreens location,” the sign states.
In addition to the D’Evereux Drive Walgreens, Natchez has another Walgreens located at 49 Seargent S. Prentiss Drive.
Phil Caruso of Walgreens media relations said he had no information about other Natchez Walgreens locations besides the former Rite-Aid in Natchez.
“We expect to have positions at other locations for the majority of affected team members,” Caruso said. “Closing stores is never an easy decision. Our goal is to ensure that we have the right number of stores in the right locations to continue to help us deliver the greatest value for our customers.”
Walgreens purchased Rite-Aid earlier this year and last month rebranded 1,651 Rite-Aid stores to Walgreens Boots Alliance, according to a Forbes.com report.
“In all, Walgreens is buying 1,932 stores and three distribution centers from Rite Aid for nearly $4.4 billion in cash,” the Forbes report states. “As of last (February), Rite Aid said it has received ‘cash proceeds of $3.6 billion, which the company continues to use to reduce debt.’”
Walgreens customer service number is 1-800-925-4733.
