NATCHEZ — Services for John Martin Banks “Daddy John” Bacon, 85, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Stanton officiating.
Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at Christian Hope Baptist Church.
Mr. Bacon was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Natchez, the son of John M. and Alice Bacon.
He was a faithful deacon and member of a number of civic, social and fraternal organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Mable Lee Holmes Bacon and Sadie Hughes Bacon; and in-laws, Eddie L. Holmes and Willie Fay Anderson; two children, John Darrene Thomas and Dodge Martin Bacon; one brother, George James Bacon; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include 12 children to carry on his legacy, Henry Lee Harris, Jessie Lewis and husband, Bill, Mary Fleming, Charles Bacon and wife, Valerie, Sybil Warner, Xavier Bacon, Roslyn Diane Carter, Glenda Ferguson, Willie Holmes, Daisy Holmes, Harry Holmes and Joseph Holmes; 28 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Henry Bacon and wife, Willie Mae, Earl Bacon and wife, Florence, Allene Bacon-Forman, Hannah B. Dillon and Julia A. Christian and husband, Charles; in-laws, Barney Schoby and wife, Joyceria, Ailiene Causey, Henry Hughes and wife, Joyce, Eddie Hughes and wife, Queen, Charles Holmes, Frankie R. Holmes and Jerry Schoby; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
