NATCHEZ — Natchez’s much-discussed community pool is on schedule to open just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The pool’s target date for completion is still May 4, but Natchez YMCA Director Alice Agner announced Tuesday that the pool should open before the end of May if everything goes according to plan.

“We’re still on schedule for completion around May 4, which gives us an opening date for around the 26th — we’re hoping for Memorial Day Weekend,” Agner said.

Less than two months away from its projected opening, the pool is still in need of lifeguards, Agner said. Training will begin May 11 for the pool’s lifeguards, who can earn between $8 and $10 an hour depending experience level.
