Ferriday — An inmate in Riverland Correctional Facility near Ferriday faces a host of drug charges after deputies say his friend tried to smuggle narcotics into the facility.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Dominique D. McGill Sr., 31, 2500 Repose St., Violet, La., on charges of possession of contraband, three counts of possession of a schedule I drug (heroin, marijuana and synthetic marijuana) possession of a schedule III drug (tramadol) and possession of a schedule III drug.
McGill’s arrest comes just one week after that of Ashley I. Raphiel, 32, 5433 Chartres St., New Orleans, whose charges included, among other things, introduction of contraband the correctional facility.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said Raphiel attempted to carry illegal drugs into the prison and that McGill was the intended recipient of her failed drug smuggling.
Deputies arrested Raphiel on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm, introduction of a contraband into a penal facility, possession of drug paraphernalia and two charges of possession of schedule I drugs (synthetic marijuana and marijuana).
Both McGill and Raphiel were still in the Concordia Parish Jail as of Monday morning. McGill had not yet seen a judge to set a bond Monday; Raphiel was being held on a bond of $52,750.
