Dr. Bill Wes Gore

NATCHEZ — Services for Dr. Bill Wes Gore, 82, of Natchez, who died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Glenburney Nursing Home in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Natchez.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Clinton Cemetery in Clinton under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at First Baptist Church in Natchez.
Gore was born July 8, 1935, in Derma, the son of the Rev. John Ellis and Mary Letha Gore.
He received a bachelor of science from Mississippi College where he played football and ran track. In 2007, he was inducted into the Mississippi College Sports Hall of Fame. He received a master of science from the University of Mississippi and held a doctorate in math and computer science from the University of Southern Mississippi. He continued his studies at Cornell University and the University of Oklahoma.
He taught and coached at Natchez High School for a number of years until he became dean of the Natchez campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. Gore dedicated the entirety of his adult life educating and bettering the lives of others. While his flame may no longer burn, his legacy will shine forever in the hearts he touched and the minds he molded.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert, Dudley, John and Granville; and two sisters, Johnnie Fay Weed and Ruth Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lois Miles; two sons, Wes and his wife, Karey, and Miles and wife, Michelle; four grandchildren, Andrew Gore, Amanda Gonzaga, Robbie Gore and Wesley Gore; and six great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest devotion.
