NATCHEZ — A man being held for allegedly stealing 6,000 quarters from a local car wash now faces narcotics charges.

Grand jurors contend that Corey Edward Pruitt, 351 McDonnell St., Lewisville, Texas, should stand trial for charges of grand larceny, felony-offense malicious mischief, possession of burglary tools and possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is holding Pruitt on a $135,000 bond.

Natchez police officers responded to a burglary call on in early August 2017 at Mud Busters Car Wash on U.S. 61 South.

Officers said two individuals, a man and a woman, stole approximately $1,500 in quarters from the car wash after causing approximately $3,500 worth of damage to the change machinery.

Officers said they later identified the individuals, Pruitt and Jessica F. Mussro, through video camera footage at the car wash.

After issuing an alert for the vehicle Pruitt and Mussro were reportedly driving, officers said they found the couple staying at the Vue Hotel in Natchez.

When they entered the hotel room, officers said, they discovered approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine and tools required to commit a burglary.

The Adams County considers Pruitt a repeat offender, with three prior convictions on drug and malicious mischief charges in Texas.

Pruitt was convicted of criminal mischief and two charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance in Denton County, Texas in October 2014.

Deputies served Pruitt his final indictment Thursday as he awaited trial in the Adams County Jail.
