NATCHEZ — Two Natchez Under-the-Hill streets have reopened as the threat of a rising Mississippi River continues to wane.
Natchez Public Works Supervisor Justin Dollar said Silver and D.A. Biglane streets officially reopened at 8 a.m. Thursday.
Silver Street had been blocked off past Magnolia Grill and redirected for two-way traffic since March 8 once the river reached 52 feet at the Natchez river gauge and eventually reached its third-highest crest ever at just more than 57.10 feet. Parts of D.A. Biglane Street also remained closed for the same period of time.
Silver Street has now returned to being a one-way street and along the side of the road is once again available.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers observed a stage of just less than 51 feet at 1 p.m. Friday, bringing the level down from a moderate to a minor flood stage.
