NATCHEZ — In John 15:13 of the Bible, Jesus says, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Highland Baptist Church has recreated what its members believe to be the greatest sacrifice ever given.
Members of area churches are reminding Natchezians why Easter is a time to celebrate in the eighth annual live-action drama titled “Sacrifice of the Christ.”
The performance opens at 7:30 p.m. March 30 and 31 at HBC, and features the death and resurrection story of Jesus Christ.
Church pastor the Rev. Paul Southerland said approximately 80 church members and local talent from other churches will be wearing costumes made by church members.
“There are a lot of events throughout the Easter Season in the Natchez area, but this is probably the largest,” Southerland said.
He said performers from age 4 to older than 70 are participating and the presentation is free and family friendly.
“Free childcare is provided at the church,” Southerland said.
This is the fourth year the sacrifice and resurrection have been re-created outside of the church walls, presented in front of a painted backdrop with mountain scenery.
Bleachers will be set up and attendees are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs from home.
Southerland said everyone is invited.
“It’s a very moving performance about the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Southerland said. “Come by and celebrate the Easter season.”
