Though March marked a month of eventful happenings — including a rising Mississippi River that neared historic levels — we continue to remember not just the news that made for good headlines, but also the stories that portray the good news going on in the Miss-Lou. Here are some of those stories that happened last week:

• On Wednesday, the Natchez-Adams School District received the state’s approval for the NASD’s corrective action plan, which paves the way for the district to shed its probationary status. Though the plan took longer than most to receive approval, it marks a necessary step in the right direction for a school district aiming to be better for its students.
• How many people can say they’ve received recognition from the White House for their good deeds? Well, add Cathedral freshman Mae Holyoak to that list. She recently received a letter from President Donald Trump for the President’s Volunteer Service award. Holyoak, whose annual lemonade stand has raised approximately $50,000 over 10 years for the Natchez-Adams Humane Society, is proof of the amazing feats this community’s youth can perform.
• The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians held its 30th annual Natchez Powwow over the weekend, celebrating Native-American music and culture. The event has been both a great means of fun for locals and a way to honor the culture that lent Natchez its namesake.
• This weekend also marked a decade of kickball for a cause with Leadership Natchez’s 10th Annual Kickball Tournament on Saturday at Duncan Park. The tournament provided not only an opportunity to have fun, but also to contribute to local charities such as the Natchez Stewpot ministry.
