NATCHEZ — A Franklin County couple on the Adams County Most Wanted list were caught this week after allegedly stealing jewelry and a check from an elderly couple.
Catherine Jackson and her husband, Melvin, were charged with grand larceny and forgery after allegedly writing a $1,302 check and stealing “thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry” from an elderly couple who employed them, Chief Deputy Jerry Brown said.
Catherine Jackson had been hired as a house-sitter and Melvin Jackson had been hired for construction work on the couple’s property.
The sheriff’s office was made aware of the forgery after the elderly couple’s bank notified them of the large withdrawal and they realized a great quantity of jewelry was missing on or about March 3, he said.
Sheriff’s deputies searched the couple’s residence and recovered some of the stolen items, but the Jacksons could not be found at the time.
Local law enforcement officers found Melvin Jackson in Emory, Texas, where Brown said he was reportedly hiding out
A resident in the Cranfield area spotted Catherine Jackson packing items into her car, where deputies arrested her without further incident.
No bond is yet set for Catherine or Melvin Jackson.
