NATCHEZ — More entertaining than watching children play kickball is watching adults play kickball — especially if it is for a good cause.

Leadership Natchez is offering a sporty way for adults to spend their Saturday among friends while contributing to the community.

Leadership Natchez’s 10th Annual Kickball Tournament takes the field at 8 a.m. Saturday in Duncan Park.

Leadership Natchez President Will Christian said kickball is a fun way to contribute to local charities, such as the Natchez Stewpot ministry that feeds elderly and shut-in Natchez residents.

“I think (kickball is) just something fun for adults to do during the weekend,” Christian said. “It’s a great way to hang out … and all the money goes to local charities. We’re looking to donate to the Stewpot ministry and possibly the Humane Society.”

The cost is $200 per team — or approximately $20 per person. Each team must have a minimum of two women playing and have at least 10 players. For attendees who just want to spectate and not play, $20 covers all-you-can-drink beer and a hamburger.

“We have 10 to 12 teams already, and we still have a couple of people trying to scramble a team together,” Christian said. “It’s a double elimination tournament, and we have a trophy for the winner. 95 Country will be playing music for us, and we’ll have a grill and maybe some cocktails.”

Although Natchez has experienced several rain storms recently, Christian said the games are still on. Bad weather won’t prevent teams from getting their feet wet on the field, he said.

If it does get rained out, never fear.

“We have the fields reserved on April 7, so if it rains we’ll just move it to the next weekend. … We’d love to have more teams,” he said. “The more the merrier.”

Christian said those who wish to register can call him at 769-798-3285 and check out the Leadership Natchez 10th Annual Kickball Tournament Facebook page for more information.
