NATCHEZ — The state education department approved the Natchez-Adams School District’s corrective action plan Wednesday, paving a path off of probationary status for the school system.
The district is among the last corrective action plans approved by the sate for schools placed on probation in October.
The state education department placed NASD on probation for a lack of certified personnel in the classroom.
Natchez-Adams Schools had a total of 16 unlicensed teachers during the 2016-2017 school year and two other teachers who worked outside of their certification areas.
The district submitted its CAP first in February, but that plan was rejected due to a formatting error.
The content of the action plan, Superintendent Fred Butcher said at the time of the first plan’s rejection, met state department standards; the only flaw was in the way in which the plan was submitted.
The Mississippi State Board of Education approved Natchez’s and Jackson Public School District’s CAPs, but denied approval for the Hazelhurst School District.
The Natchez-Adams corrective action plan is comprised of two major goals: To aid teachers who need to renew licenses or take licensure exams and to hire new, licensed teachers.
