NATCHEZ — Two men were arrested Monday night after one allegedly removed a pistol from its holster during an altercation.
After two men in a Ford F350 bumped a BMW 543i in the parking lot of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet at the Natchez Mall, the vehicle owners reportedly got into an altercation in the parking lot.
The two men in the truck reportedly left the Ollie’s parking lot, witnesses said, before returning and following the BMW owner into the store.
Lorietta Murray, a department manager at Ollie’s said the two men in the truck, who were white, began insulting and using racial slurs against the owner of the BMW, who was black.
“They walked in behind him and then while they were fighting, he pulls out a pistol and hands it to the other guy,” Murray said. “People started running and the kids were screaming.”
James Jackson, co-manager of Ollie’s, said he saw the man draw his pistol and hold it up in the air.
“Customers felt threatened,” he said. “So police were called.”
The owner of the BMW was with his family at the time of the incident and had a small child in the car.
Carl Bradshaw, 40, who reportedly drew the weapon, was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace, Natchez Police officer John Finley said.
Another man who was with Bradshaw at the time of the incident, was also arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace.
Finley said he did not have that man’s name written down, as another officer has handled the arrest.
Finley said a second firearm was found and confiscated from Bradshaw’s truck.
After his arrest, Finley said Bradshaw told officers he was not drawing the weapon in a threatening manner.
“He said he was giving it to his son to put in the truck,” Finley said. “But when a weapon is out of its holster …”
Murray said she believed the incident was avoidable.
“It shouldn’t have been a big deal,” she said. “It was just a bump on the car.”
