Already in the midst of March, 2018 continues to race on as we try to keep up with an already hectic year. But let us take a minute to slow down and look back on some of the good news that occurred in our community just last week.

• At just 14 years old, two Miss-Lou teens attained a monumental achievement last week by earning honors as Eagle Scouts. For their projects, Tyler Gregg led an effort to construct and install lockable storage benches in the Cathedral Junior High locker room, while Charlie Nutter cleaned more than 200 headstones at Natchez City Cemetery during summer 2017. The two teens embody true dedication and are shining examples of what the youth in this community can accomplish.
• Relay for Life’s fourth annual Cruising for a Cure car show hosted more than 100 cars on the Vidalia riverfront this weekend to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event provided a great opportunity for family fun while supporting a cause that affects nearly all of us in some way, shape or form.
• Many people still struggle to figure out their lives well into adulthood, but 10-year-old Skylar Carson, winner of Concordia Parish’s Student of the Year award for the fifth-grade division, already has everything planned. The precocious Concordia Parish Academy of Math, Science and Technology student plans to one day attend a performing arts school in New York, then move to Hollywood to become a true triple threat: an actress, singer and dancer. Carson’s ambition is something to which people of all ages should aspire.

Last week proved the Miss-Lou is full of individuals — both young and old — that work hard to pave the way for a bright future.
