Vidalia — Officers responding to what they believed was a minor car accident in Vidalia Monday instead allegedly found an armed felon transporting illegal drugs.
Tony Chase Evans, 32, 102 Park Drive, was charged with two counts of resisting an officer, possession of a schedule II drug with the intent to distribute, possession of a schedule IV drug with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled drug substance.
Lt. Miranda Clifton said Vidalia Police Department officers were dispatched at approximately 2:47 p.m. Monday to Viking Street.
Evans reportedly became belligerent, yelling and refusing to comply with orders as the officers searched the car.
Officers saw a 12-gauge shotgun and drug paraphernalia in plain view in the car, causing them to search the vehicle further, Clifton said.
While trying to pat-search Evans, Clifton said the man became aggressive toward the officers.
Upon further search, Clifton said officers found a .22-cal. rifle, drug paraphernalia, separately packaged methamphetamines, marijuana and Xanax.
Evans was being held Wednesday without bond in the Concordia Parish Jail.
