NATCHEZ — A Natchez High School student was arrested Friday after allegedly trespassing on school property and assaulting a sheriff’s deputy on campus.

Curtavius Knight, 18, 309 Dumas Drive, was arrested Friday on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

He was released later that day on a recognizance bond.

The incident report states that the school resource officer (SRO) was informed that Knight was not currently allowed on campus and needed to be escorted away.

While attempting to escort Knight off campus, the incident report says Knight began verbally threatening the deputy, saying the deputy’s badge did not intimidate him.

“I asked Curtavious to calm down and stop using profanity,” the SRO said in his report. “As we continued walking to the front of the building, Curtavious said to me that my badge (doesn’t) scare him and that he would beat my a**, and all I had to do was take it off.”

The report says Knight moved toward the SRO as though to attack him, and the deputy had to “wrestle” with Knight in order to get the handcuffs on him.

In the course of the arrest, the incident reports stated that Knight repeatedly made violent threats to both the SRO officer and administrators at the school.

Knight reportedly said the SRO “wouldn’t last one second on the streets once (Knight) gets out of jail,” and that he “was going to tell his daddy to kill (the officer), too.”

The officer’s leg was injured in the scuffle, and the officer went to the hospital to have the injury checked.

Knight was arrested at approximately 12:30 p.m. and taken to the Adams County Jail.

Justice Court Judge Patricia Dunmore released Knight immediately on a recognizance bond.
