Franklin County High School’s Cameron Young signed his National Letter of Intent to Mississippi State University on National Signing Day Wednesday.
Franklin County football coach Trey Woodard said Young had initially signed to play at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College during a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the school when he then received a phone call from an MSU recruiter around 9:20 a.m.
“We were all done with the signing,” Woodard said. “(Cameron) had gone back home, and he was happy with his choice.”
By the time Young received and signed the papers with MSU, Woodard said it was around 11:30 a.m. The contract did not become official, however, until Young received a parental signature a couple hours later since he is underage.
Woodard said while the call was a bit of a shock, he was happy everything worked out.
“This is huge for him,” he said. “He worked his butt off and made his dream come true.”
Mississippi State athletics listed Young as a defensive lineman.
Also on Wednesday, Franklin County’s Dominique White signed to Southwest Mississippi Community College.
