Both the Adams County Christian School varsity basketball teams kept their MAIS District 5-AAA records perfect at 4-0 Friday night with big wins over Silliman Institute.

With just two district games left to determine their seeding in the South State Tournament, both coaches said they aren’t feeling any extra pressure.

“This is when it counts, and one of our goals was to win district and now it is right here in front of us,” boys coach Richy Spears said.

The ACCS varsity boys (11-5, 4-0) defeated Silliman, 72-44, and after a quick start Spears said he had no problem letting the younger members of his team get some playing time.

“It’s a team thing,” he said. “We have some depth and we played with it.”

Lady Rebels coach Melanie Hall agreed the rest for her starters was a good thing, especially after a buzzer-beater victory over Bowling Green on Thursday night, 49-48.

“Bowling Green is another good team in AAA, and it was a nail biter so I didn’t get to rest a lot of my kids,” she said. “It’s back to back to back. You have to be ready for that kind of thing, but that’s a lot of wear an tear on the body.”

The ACCS varsity girls team (12-6, 4-0) notched its win Friday, 47-13, with three players ending in double digits.

Brianna Henson led the efforts with 13 points, Caitlyn Gamberi had 12 and Lexie Emanuel added another 10 points herself.

“I’ve seen, with each game, we have just come closer and closer and closer together,” Hall said. “They are becoming more comfortable, and you can see that.”

Spears added the Rebels could use any extra help they can get. Seniors Josh Day and Julian Wilson led scoring for ACCS with 22 and 19 points respectively, while Wes Stockstill added another eight points off the bench.

ACCS travels to district opponent Central Private today for its third game in three days. The varsity games will begin at 6 p.m. at Central High School in Baton Rouge. Both teams will then close out their district schedule on Tuesday when they travel to Cathedral.

“It’s no time to be weary now, so going forward into South State I think this will be good for us,” Spears said. “It hopefully won’t be something new for us to possibly play three games in three days. I hope we get to that point.”

As the regular season nears its end, Hall also said the Lady Rebels must stay sharp.

“It’s no pressure, I’m just thankful they are seeing their hard work and effort pay off,” she said. “We just have to take care of our business. You have to be ready on any given night to play basketball.”

Spears thinks the same.

“We can’t have any mental lapses,” he said. “We have to get better every time we walk on the floor.”
